Minoan lines nasce nel 1972 come risposta della capitale Cretese Heraklion a quanto esperimentato 5 anni prima dalla conterranea Chania con Anek line. si dimostra molto attiva da subito ed ha una evoluzione sia in termini di rotte che di naviglio molto importante, ha passato la sua prima fase nel trasformare traghetti, spesso di origine Giapponese, in base alle esigenze dell’azienda ma è dal 1995 con l’introduzione di Aretousa che abbiamo una decisiva svolta verso traghetti totalmente nuovi e di concezione moderna, che hanno aperto una stagione di 7 nuovi ordini in meno di 8 anni. Le contingenze economiche tuttavia hanno portato l’ azienda ad affidarsi ad alcuni partner commerciali fino all’acquisizione completa da parte del gruppo Grimaldi di Napoli, che ha limitato la flotta a sole 4 navi ma che dopo diverse stagioni di “rosso” sui conti ha riportato in attivo le casse della compagnia
