Il venerdì, a Pireo, è normalmente il giorno di maggior traffico nel porto, e quello dove l’appassionato ha più materiale per poter lavorare con la propria fotocamera. Ricordo ancora la prima volta in cui visitai, munito di fotocamera (una Yashica a pellicola a focale fissa, altri tempi, pulsante di scatto e un piccolo display elettronico che faceva da contascatti, altro che le reflex di oggi….) il porto di Pireo, affascinato dalla moltitudine di navi presenti. Avevo appena 14 anni, ed era il secondo anno di “attività” come shipspotter, e quel venerdì mattina, 2 settembre 1994, potei godermi la mattinata nel porto fotografando a più non posso, frenato solamente dalla tirannìa del rullino analogico “razionato” dai miei genitori, 36 pose, anche in questo caso, altro che i Giga di oggi… ricordo la GOLDEN VERGINA di Agapitos Lines, in manovra di attracco al termine della traversata da Samos, Ikaria e Paros, nave diventata tristemente più famosa sei anni dopo; a breve distanza, la fu ammiraglia di Anek Lines, la APTERA, all’epoca impegnata sulla linea di Chania; ricordo ancora le due navi di Dane Sea Line, la Kamiros, che avevo preso l’anno prima, in attesa di partire alle 12.00 per Patmos, Leros, Kos e Rodi, mentre lungo lo stesso molo, dove oggi partono le navi per le Cicladi Occidentali, l’ammiraglia PATMOS che invece effettuava il collegamento serale delle 18.00 diretto per Kos e Rodi; la concorrenza, sulle rotte del Dodecaneso, tutte schierate assieme alle DANE sul molo lungo Akti Miaouli, offriva anche la RODANTHI, ammiraglia della G.A. Ferries, e la compagna di flotta DALIANA, la prima impegnata sulla rotta di Rodi via Paros, Naxos, Patmos, Leros, Kalymnos e Kos, la seconda invece passando dalla più lunga linea che toccava anche Santorini, Heraklion, Kassos e Karpathos, oltre che dalla IONIAN SEA di Strintzis Lines, nota in acque italiane come CANGURO BRUNO, quindi come IONIAN FANTASY e come BIHAR in noleggio a Co.Tu.Nav. . Tornando invece alla storica G.A. Ferries, quel venerdì l’unica nave della flotta che risultava assente era la ROMILDA, ultima acquisita giusto l’anno precedente; regolarmente ormeggiate erano invece la MILENA, impegnata sulla linea per Paros, Naxos, Ikaria e Samos, a fianco della concorrente GOLDEN VERGINA, e la DIMITRA, lungo Akti Possidonos, anch’essa in servizio per Ikaria, Samos e le Cicladi orientali, negli ormeggi che oggi sono tipicamente occupati dalle navi di Blue Star Ferries per Paros, Naxos, Ios e Santorini. A fianco delle navi del Dodecaneso trovavamo anche una nave in servizio per Creta, la VISENTZOS KORNAROS, al suo primo anno in Grecia, appena acquistata da Lane Lines, quarta compagnia locale di Creta, impegnata nel quarto collegamento per la quarta prefettura cretese, Lassithi, viaggiando dai porti di Agios Nikolaos e Sitia per Pireo via Milos. Il traghetto, che ancora mostrava chiaramente il nome PRIDE OF WINCHESTER in rilievo sotto le lettere greche verniciate, non nascondeva assolutamente il passato nelle fila della P&O, sfoggiando lo scafo azzurro tipico della compagnia, la banda “Go Fast” e il fumaiolo azzurro, sul quale è stato dipinto il logo LANE. Ovviamente non manca una nutrita delegazione di navi Minoan Lines, rappresentata dall’ammiraglia N. KAZANTZAKIS in servizio per Heraklion, dalla veterana KNOSSOS, che ancora svolgeva la linea per Chania, e dalla AGIA GALINI, il ro/ro necessario alla compagnia per smaltire il grosso traffico di mezzi pesanti in un’epoca dove i garage non erano quelli di oggi. Confuse tra le tre Minoan, su Akti Kondyli, anche la RETHIMNON di ANEK, che a dispetto del nome svolgeva l’ingrato compito di contrastare la bellissima ammiraglia di Minoan Lines sulla Pireo – Heraklion (a quei tempi a Rethymnon ci si andava anche in nave, ma si doveva prendere la ARKADI, anch’essa presente all’appello…), e la THESEUS, nave utilizzata dalla Miras Ferries sulla linea da Pireo per Kythira, Antikythira e Kasteli, il porto più occidentale di Creta; tuttavia, nel 1994, questa spettacolare rotta faceva scalo anche nel Peloponneso orientale, attraccando a Kyparissi, nel magnifico fiordo di Ierakas e a Monemvasia. Completavano il magnifico affollamento del primo porto greco la mitica SAPPHO, prima nave a vestire i colori della Nel Lines, la APOLLO EXPRESS 1 di Ventouris Sea Lines, prima delle tre gemelle di Brest a venire demolita nel 2010, quindi la NISSOS CHIOS, semplice omonima della nave odierna, appartenuta alla Compagnia di Navigazione di Chios, i “concorrenti poveri” della Nel Lines, un aliscafo della Ceres Flying Dolphins (nel 1994 solo un paio di linee partivano dal porto di Pireo, poiché gli aliscafi di costruzione sovietica gialli e blu facevano base nel porticciolo di Marina Zea) e svariati landing-craft per le isole del Golfo Saronico. All’ora della mia gita, poi, molte altre navi avevano già abbandonato il porto per le partenze mattutine verso Paros, Naxos, Ios e Santorini, verso le Cicladi Occidentali, verso Syros, Tinos e Mykonos, e verso Ikaria e Samos.
Il ritornello tipico dell’appassionato di navi greco vicino agli “anta” è sempre “Ti rendi conto come siamo stati fortunati noi, tutte le navi che abbiamo visto, com’era Pireo allora, al confronto della situazione di oggi?“, ed è innegabile che ciò sia vero, per cui il time-lapse che voglio proporvi oggi, ritratto il venerdì mattina 26 giugno 2015, non ha certamente la ricchezza, la varietà di livree e di navi che c’era nel 1994, ma spero comunque possa essere gradito. Purtroppo essendo la mia prima esperienza di time-lapse, credo di aver notevolmente “cannato” i tempi della macchina fotografica: gli oltre 1.200 scatti effettuati sul lungomare di Pireo tra le 7.00 e le 9.30 di mattina, alla giusta velocità (troppa…) si risolvono in una manciata di secondi, a 25 fotogrammi al secondo, per cui ne ho fatte anche due versioni a 12 e 6 fotogrammi per secondo, purtroppo non fluidi, ma sicuramente più godibili.
