Estate 2007: Anek Lines conclude in Giappone l’accordo per l’acquisto della FERRY TSUKUBA, che comincia il lungo viaggio dall’oriente verso la Grecia col nome ELYROS; dopo gli arrivi, negli anni precedenti, delle varie IONIAN QUEEN, IONIAN KING, OCEAN TRAILER e ARIADNE, si cominciava a pensare ad una nuova primavera delle navi di costruzione giapponese in Grecia, vere protagoniste della navigazione in Adriatico ed Egeo negli anni ’80 e ’90, e troppo velocemente archiviate agli inizi degli anni 2000.
L’arrivo della ELYROS si rivela, purtroppo, un semplice fuoco di paglia: la nave, che vedrà il mare solo nel settembre 2008, dopo una profondissima conversione che la trasforma in maniera netta, e che pare sia stata origine della separazione consensuale tra ANEK e Grimaldi Napoli, allora presente nel capitale azionario della compagnia cretese, rimane da allora l’ultima nave importante giunta in Grecia dal Giappone, eccezion fatta per la bellissima SUPERFERRY di Golden Star Ferries.
La notizia grandiosa ed inaspettata è che, dopo oltre 10 anni, finalmente i ro-pax giapponesi tornano in Grecia, anche se passando dalla Cina, e fa piacere che proprio Anek Lines, che è sempre stata in prima linea nell’acquisto e nella conversione di tali navi, sia tornata alla carica per portare di nuovo dalle nostre parti le navi del Sol Levante.
Operante sulla linea Venezia – Igoumenitsa – Patrasso dal gennaio 2005, dove originariamente venivano impiegate le gemelle LEFKA ORI e SOPHOCLES V., occasionalmente rimpiazzate dalle compagne di flotta, dal 2012 le belle giapponesi di origine Higashi Nihon Ferry lasciano posto alle gemelle KRITI I e KRITI II, dato il loro noleggio, con opzione di vendita, in Corea del Sud; anche qua la storia procede in maniera diversa, come del resto ANEK decide di virare presto dall’utilizzo di navi di proprietà su Venezia al noleggio di navi di altri operatori. Nel 2013, le navi scelte per la linea di Venezia sono le note “ferry-cruise” di Grimaldi Holding CORAGGIO e FORZA, impegnate in quattro partenze settimanali da entrambi i porti; a fine 2013, scaduto il primo contratto di noleggio, confermata la FORZA, la CORAGGIO viene invece rimpiazzata dalla AUDACIA, sempre dello stesso armatore; dopo un’anno di coabitazione tra FORZA ed AUDACIA, nel dicembre 2014 anche quest’ultima nave viene restituita all’armatore. Anek Lines noleggia quindi da Visemar la NORMAN ATLANTIC, inizialmente per un periodo di tre mesi, probabilmente progettando di utilizzarla su Venezia al fianco di FORZA; la coabitazione sarebbe stata decisamente interessante, poiché la nave della Grimaldi trae ispirazione dal progetto Visentini di cui la NORMAN ATLANTIC era ennesima esponente, ma purtroppo il destino ha riservato anche in questo caso un capovolgimento di fronte, purtroppo tragico, con l’incendio della nave al largo di Corfu e la scomparsa di 13 persone. Nel 2015 quindi la linea di Venezia rimane appannaggio della sola FORZA, della quale, tuttavia, a fine anno scade il noleggio. Per il 2016, quindi, ANEK noleggia nuovamente la nave di Venezia, stavolta rivolgendosi alla Stena RoRo, la quale offre la NORMAN ASTURIAS, nave gemella della sfortunata NORMAN ATLANTIC, anch’essa tornata da un contratto di charter con LD Lines. Stavolta, però, ANEK adotta per la nave la bandiera greca, dipinge la propria livrea sullo scafo, noleggiato per due anni (precedentemente, gli altri ro-pax noleggiati avevano avuto le scritte di ANEK realizzate sulle livree originali), e rinomina la nave ASTERION, nome greco assonante con lo spagnolo “Asturias”.
Finito ad aprile 2018 il contratto di noleggio con Stena RoRo, ANEK dispone immediatamente la sostituzione della ASTERION, che passa a servire la linea Cork – Santander per Irish Ferries col nome di CONNEMARA, con la propria ammiraglia ELYROS, tuttavia già impegnata da maggio nell’ennesimo noleggio a favore di Algerie Ferries. Mentre tutte le ipotesi vertevano verso l’arrivo di una nuova Visentini, arrivano notizie dell’acquisto della GRAND SPRING, nave impegnata nei collegamenti Cina – Corea del Sud, ferma dal 2015, e precedentemente nota per essere la ISHIKARI di Taiheiyo Ferry, rimpiazzata nel 2011 dalla nave di nuova generazione che ne porta lo stesso nome.
Denominata ASTERION II per il viaggio che la porta verso la Grecia, cominciato il 7 aprile 2018 a Weihai, in Cina, e diretta a Pireo via Singapore e Suez, la nave viene costruita dai cantieri Mitsubishi Heavy Industries di Kobe, Giappone, nel 1991, e viene consegnata a Taiheiyo Ferry il 18 marzo, prendendo il nome ISHIKARI e sostituendo l’altra nave nota con lo stesso nome, anch’essa ben nota in Grecia dove, dal 1992 al 2010 ha viaggiato nell’Adriatico col nome di EROTOKRITOS ed EROTOKRITOS T, collegando i porti di Patrasso, Igoumenitsa, Corfu e Cefalonia con Ancona e Venezia (coi colori Minoan Lines), Monfalcone e Bari (per la Maritime Way di Romano Artioli) e Brindisi (sia per Maritime Way che per Endeavor Lines); parlando dei vari incroci del destino, è interessante notare come una delle colonne portanti della flotta ANEK per decenni sia stata la gemella della originale ISHIKARI, la DAISETSU, più nota dalle nostre parti come LATO. Il nome “Ishikari”, classico della flotta Taiheiyo Ferry, in Giappone è proprio sia di una città di Hokkaido, che di un fiume, che di un monte, tutti situati nella più settentrionale delle quattro principali isole giapponesi. La seconda nave a portare tale nome per la Taiheiyo Ferry, compagnia di traghetti considerata la migliore del Giappone, ha una stazza lorda di 31.804 tonnellate, misura 193 metri di lunghezza per 27 di larghezza e 6,3 di pescaggio, può accomodare secondo gli standard giapponesi fino ad 854 passeggeri, spostandosi a 23 nodi grazie ai due motori MAN 14V52/55B da 14 cilindri. Lanciata sulla linea operata dalla compagnia, la Nagoya – Sendai – Tomakomai, collegando Honshu e Hokkaido, viene a sua volta rimpiazzata dalla terza ISHIKARI, e passa ai cinesi della Wanfang International di Weihai, i quali la impiegano da Pyeongtaek (Corea del Sud) a Weihai. Ferma dal 2015, a fine marzo 2018 parte dalla Grecia un’equipaggio col compito di portare la nave in Grecia, dove verrà risistemata per cominciare, nel giugno 2018, la linea Venezia – Igoumenitsa – Patrasso, prima di un’ulteriore e più profondo refit da effettuare successivamente.
